A Nilgiris home set amidst rocks and boulders with the most magical sun-kissed golden hour.
The KSC project is a large expansive private home in Coonoor for a small family. The play between the inside and outside is mediated by the large rocks and boulders present on site, none of which were disturbed from their existing states.
A series of courtyards, verandahs, terraces, loggias - the in-between spaces - connect different parts of the house allowing one to experience the Nilgiris weather in the best way possible. The house is minimal in it's play of material and textures but relies on spatial movement and a seamless conversation between the inside and outside. Polished Khareda stone, rough-cut Mandana, granite cobble, and timber floors create a palatte of materials that tend to disappear.
Arches have been introduced to soften the sharp edges and a seamless hybrid between timber and steel has been attempted in the roof to navigate the large spans while maintaining warmth through the wood.
